PTE Academic — the short version
PTE Academic is a computer-based English test used for university admission and for visa and migration purposes in several countries. It runs as a single test of about two hours in three parts — Speaking & Writing, Reading, and Listening — and is scored automatically on the Global Scale of English from 10 to 90, with an overall score plus a breakdown by skill. Results are usually returned within a few business days. Because scoring is algorithmic and many item types contribute to more than one skill at once, fluency and clarity of delivery carry unusual weight. Tabish Tutors prepares candidates for how PTE actually marks rather than for generic English practice.
What we cover
Full PTE coverage — nothing quietly skipped
We teach to the specification, not to a summary of it. Here is exactly what is on the table.
Speaking & Writing
About 76 – 84 minutes
- Read Aloud — fluency, oral fluency and content scoring
- Repeat Sentence — the highest-yield item type
- Describe Image — a repeatable framework, not a memorised script
- Re-tell Lecture — note-taking that survives delivery
- Summarise Written Text and Essay — length and structure rules
Reading
About 23 – 30 minutes
- Fill in the Blanks — reading and reading-writing variants
- Multiple choice, single and multiple answer
- Re-order Paragraphs — cohesion signals
- Negative marking and when not to guess
Listening
About 31 – 39 minutes
- Summarise Spoken Text and Write from Dictation
- Highlight Correct Summary and Incorrect Words
- Fill in the Blanks under audio pace
- Note-taking systems that keep up

Diagnosis first
PTE marks slip for a small number of fixable reasons
We find which one it is in the first session, then teach against it. Vague effort does not move a score; a named cause does.
Speaking is being over-corrected
Candidates who stop and restart to fix a small error destroy their fluency score. Continuing smoothly through a minor slip scores better than a perfect sentence delivered in pieces.
High-yield item types are neglected
Repeat Sentence and Write from Dictation contribute to several skills at once. Hours spent there move the overall score far more than the same hours spent on essays.
Memorised templates are used
Templates recycled verbatim across every Describe Image response reduce content scores. A flexible framework works; a script does not.
Word limits are ignored
Summarise Written Text and the essay have hard length rules. Breaching them can zero the form score regardless of how good the writing is.

Questions parents ask
PTE — frequently asked questions
Most candidates receive results within two business days, and in some cases up to five depending on processing. That speed is a common reason candidates choose PTE when working to a visa deadline.
Not easier, but different. PTE is fully computer-marked, which removes interview nerves but rewards clear, steady delivery and precise adherence to item rules. Candidates who plateau on IELTS Speaking sometimes do better on PTE, and the reverse is also true.
It depends entirely on the university or immigration authority. Common thresholds are 58, 65 and 79 overall, often with minimums in each skill. Confirm the requirement with the receiving body before you start.
Yes, with a skill-level breakdown, so we can see exactly which item types are costing points rather than guessing from an overall number.
