GRE General Test — the short version
The current GRE General Test runs 1 hour 58 minutes with 55 questions and no scheduled breaks. It contains one Analytical Writing essay (30 minutes, scored 0–6), two Verbal Reasoning sections (12 questions in 18 minutes, then 15 in 23 minutes) and two Quantitative Reasoning sections (12 questions in 21 minutes, then 15 in 26 minutes), with Verbal and Quant each scored from 130 to 170. The test is section-adaptive: performance on the first section of each type sets the difficulty of the second, so the opening sections carry disproportionate weight. Tabish Tutors prepares candidates for this shortened format one-to-one online, including essay marking.

Diagnosis first
GRE marks slip for a small number of fixable reasons
We find which one it is in the first session, then teach against it. Vague effort does not move a score; a named cause does.
Section one is being treated as a warm-up
The GRE is section-adaptive. A slow start in Verbal section one limits the difficulty — and therefore the ceiling — of section two. There is no warm-up on this test.
Vocabulary is a word list, not a system
Flashcard marathons fade in weeks. Root-based learning with context sentences survives, and it also transfers to text completion where raw recall does not.
Quant is under-practised by strong students
Engineering graduates assume GRE quant is beneath them, then lose points to quantitative comparison and data interpretation — formats they have never actually practised.
The essay is written but never marked
Analytical Writing is scored on structure and reasoning, both trainable. An essay nobody marks cannot improve. Ours come back with a band and comments.

How it works
From first message to first lesson
Four steps, no directory to sort through, no commitment before the demo.
Tell us about the student
Curriculum, board, current grade, target grade, and the topics actually causing trouble. Two minutes on WhatsApp is usually enough.
We match the tutor
We hand-pick one specialist for your exact specification. You are not sent a directory to sort through — the match is our job.
Free trial lesson
A real teaching session with the tutor who would teach the course. No payment, no card details, no commitment.
Lessons and weekly reports
The same tutor every week, a written plan, and a progress report to the parent so nobody is guessing whether it is working.
Who teaches it
Faculty for GRE General Test
You are matched to one of these specialists — and you keep them.
Every enquiry reaches the academic team first. They read what the student is actually stuck on, identify the exact board and paper, and match a subject specialist who teaches that syllabus week in and week out — not the next tutor on a list. The team sets the study plan, reviews progress reports before they are sent, and steps in to reassign a tutor if the match is not right after the first lesson. They also answer the WhatsApp line during teaching hours.
Ayesha has coached students into universities across the United States, Canada and the UK. She teaches the Digital SAT and the shortened GRE with a focus on the adaptive structure of both tests, and marks every Analytical Writing essay herself.
Hassan prepares MS, MPhil and PhD applicants for GAT General and GAT Subject. He starts every course by confirming the candidate is registered in the correct GAT category — the single most expensive mistake candidates make.

“I had already taken the GRE once and scored 305. Tabish Tutors rebuilt my vocabulary approach completely and marked every essay I wrote. Second attempt: 322. The section-adaptive strategy alone was worth the course.”
Questions parents ask
GRE — frequently asked questions
One hour and fifty-eight minutes, with 55 questions plus one essay and no scheduled breaks. Preparation material written for the old four-hour test is out of date and misleading on pacing.
It depends on the programme. Competitive US MS programmes typically look for 315+, with strong funding cases often above 320 and a Quant-heavy split for engineering and computing. We set your target against your actual shortlist.
Ten to fourteen weeks is typical for a meaningful gain, largely because vocabulary needs calendar time to consolidate. Shorter plans work only for candidates already near target.
Yes. Essays are marked against the official scoring criteria and returned with a band and specific comments — not just a grade.
