IB Diploma Programme — the short version

The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year pre-university course for students aged 16 to 19, in which candidates take six subjects — normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level — alongside the core: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Subjects are scored 1 to 7, and with up to three bonus points from the core the maximum total is 45, with 24 the minimum for the award of the Diploma. A large share of every subject grade comes from the Internal Assessment, which is marked against published criteria rather than a mark scheme. Tabish Tutors teaches IB one-to-one online, including IA supervision and Extended Essay support.

Who this is for

Is IB tutoring right for your student?

  • DP1 and DP2 students in IB World Schools
  • Students whose predicted grades are below their offer
  • Students stuck on an Internal Assessment
  • Extended Essay candidates who need structure and supervision
  • Students taking Maths AA or AI at Higher Level

What you get

Outcomes we commit to

  • Teaching mapped to IB assessment criteria, not generic subject content
  • A markable Internal Assessment with a properly scoped question
  • Command terms drilled until answers match what is asked
  • A points projection tracked against your university offer

Diagnosis first

IB marks slip for a small number of fixable reasons

We find which one it is in the first session, then teach against it. Vague effort does not move a score; a named cause does.

Answers ignore the command term

IB marks against command terms — outline, explain, evaluate, discuss. Writing a good answer to a different command term earns very little.

The IA is drifting

Internal Assessments fail on scope far more often than on effort. A research question that is too broad cannot satisfy the criteria however much work goes into it.

HL extension material is under-taught

Schools running six subjects at pace often compress HL-only content into the final months. It carries disproportionate marks.

The core is left to the last term

TOK and the Extended Essay carry up to three points — the difference between an offer and a near miss — and they cannot be rushed in DP2.

The plan

How the course actually runs

A written plan agreed before the first paid lesson, so you always know what stage the student is in.

Criteria Mapping

Session 1

  • Confirm subjects, levels and option topics
  • Diagnostic against IB command terms
  • Review current IA drafts and predicted grades
  • Set the points target against the university offer

Subject Depth

Core teaching

  • Full syllabus coverage at the correct level
  • HL extension material taught explicitly
  • IB command terms drilled into answers
  • Past paper questions by topic

Internal Assessment

Parallel

  • Research question narrowed to something markable
  • Structure built directly on the assessment criteria
  • Data handling, uncertainty and evaluation
  • Draft feedback within academic-honesty limits

Final Exams

DP2

  • Papers 1, 2 and 3 under timed conditions
  • Marked against IB markbands
  • TOK essay and exhibition finalised
  • Points projection tracked to results day

How it works

From first message to first lesson

Four steps, no directory to sort through, no commitment before the demo.

01

Tell us about the student

Curriculum, board, current grade, target grade, and the topics actually causing trouble. Two minutes on WhatsApp is usually enough.

02

We match the tutor

We hand-pick one specialist for your exact specification. You are not sent a directory to sort through — the match is our job.

03

Free trial lesson

A real teaching session with the tutor who would teach the course. No payment, no card details, no commitment.

04

Lessons and weekly reports

The same tutor every week, a written plan, and a progress report to the parent so nobody is guessing whether it is working.

ATAcademic TeamTutor Matching & Academic Oversight

Every enquiry reaches the academic team first. They read what the student is actually stuck on, identify the exact board and paper, and match a subject specialist who teaches that syllabus week in and week out — not the next tutor on a list. The team sets the study plan, reviews progress reports before they are sent, and steps in to reassign a tutor if the match is not right after the first lesson. They also answer the WhatsApp line during teaching hours.

Questions parents ask

IB — frequently asked questions

Yes — with scoping the research question, structuring against the criteria, handling data and evaluating results, and with feedback on drafts within the IB academic-honesty rules. We supervise and teach; the work remains the student's own.

Both Analysis & Approaches and Applications & Interpretation, at Higher and Standard Level, including Paper 3 at HL and the Mathematics Exploration.

Yes — question framing, research planning, structure, referencing and draft feedback. The EE and TOK together are worth up to three points and are the most commonly under-served part of the Diploma.

It depends on how much time remains and where the marks are being lost. A student losing marks to command terms and IA scope can move several points quickly; content gaps take longer. We give you an honest read after the diagnostic.
