Pearson Qualifications — the short version
Pearson is the awarding organisation behind the Edexcel family of academic qualifications — GCSE, International GCSE and A Level — and behind BTEC, a vocational route assessed largely through internally marked assignments and graded Pass, Merit and Distinction. The two families are assessed in fundamentally different ways: Edexcel is examination-led, while BTEC depends on meeting written assignment criteria across units, often with deadlines spread across two years. Tabish Tutors teaches both one-to-one online, matching the teaching to whichever assessment model the student is actually on.
What we cover
Full Pearson coverage — nothing quietly skipped
We teach to the specification, not to a summary of it. Here is exactly what is on the table.
Edexcel Academic
- International GCSE across Maths, Sciences, English, Business
- GCSE Foundation and Higher tiers
- A Level and International A Level modular units
- Edexcel paper style and mark-scheme wording
BTEC Nationals
- Business, IT, Health and Social Care, Applied Science
- Unit assignment briefs and their command verbs
- Externally assessed units and set tasks
- Evidence, referencing and submission standards
Assignment Technique
- Reading a brief: what Pass, Merit and Distinction each require
- Structuring evidence so criteria are visibly met
- Analysis and evaluation for Distinction criteria
- Deadline planning across concurrent units
Who this is for
Is Pearson tutoring right for your student?
- Students on Edexcel GCSE, International GCSE or A Level
- BTEC National students managing assignment deadlines
- Students combining a BTEC with A Levels
- Students who need Distinction rather than Merit
- Private candidates entering through Pearson centres
What you get
Outcomes we commit to
- Teaching matched to the assessment model you are actually on
- Assignment briefs decoded so every criterion is visibly met
- Distinction-level analysis taught, not assumed
- A deadline map across all concurrent units
Diagnosis first
Pearson marks slip for a small number of fixable reasons
We find which one it is in the first session, then teach against it. Vague effort does not move a score; a named cause does.
Distinction criteria are never attempted
Many BTEC students write excellent Pass-level description and never address the analysis the Distinction criteria demand. The grade is capped by omission, not ability.
Deadlines collide across units
BTEC runs several units concurrently over two years. Students who plan unit by unit rather than across the whole calendar hit unrecoverable pile-ups.
The brief is skim-read
Assignment briefs state exactly what evidence each criterion needs. Answering the topic rather than the brief is the most common cause of a referral.
Externally assessed units are underestimated
Students used to coursework often treat the external units casually, and those units carry disproportionate weight in the final grade.
The plan
How the course actually runs
A written plan agreed before the first paid lesson, so you always know what stage the student is in.

How it works
From first message to first lesson
Four steps, no directory to sort through, no commitment before the demo.
Tell us about the student
Curriculum, board, current grade, target grade, and the topics actually causing trouble. Two minutes on WhatsApp is usually enough.
We match the tutor
We hand-pick one specialist for your exact specification. You are not sent a directory to sort through — the match is our job.
Free trial lesson
A real teaching session with the tutor who would teach the course. No payment, no card details, no commitment.
Lessons and weekly reports
The same tutor every week, a written plan, and a progress report to the parent so nobody is guessing whether it is working.
Questions parents ask
Pearson — frequently asked questions
Both are Pearson qualifications. Edexcel is academic and examination-based; BTEC is vocational, assessed mainly through assignments graded Pass, Merit and Distinction, with some externally assessed units. They need completely different preparation.
We coach and teach — decoding the brief, planning the evidence, teaching the analysis that Distinction criteria require, and reviewing drafts within the rules on permitted assistance. The submitted work stays the student's own.
Widely, yes, often alongside or in place of A Levels, though specific courses set their own requirements. Check the course entry profile — and we can help you read it.
