A Levels (AS & A2) — the short version
A Levels are the principal pre-university qualification of the British system, normally taken over two years as AS and A2 and graded A* to E. They are offered by Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel, AQA and OCR, and are accepted for university entry worldwide. Grades are decided far more by application of method under time pressure than by recall, which is why strong students often plateau at B and A without changing how they answer. Tabish Tutors teaches A Level one-to-one online against the exact specification, with full past papers marked to the official mark scheme.
What we cover
Full A Levels coverage — nothing quietly skipped
We teach to the specification, not to a summary of it. Here is exactly what is on the table.
Mathematics
- Pure — algebra, functions, calculus, sequences, trigonometry
- Mechanics — kinematics, forces, moments, momentum
- Statistics — distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation
- Further Maths — complex numbers, matrices, differential equations
Sciences
- Physics — mechanics, materials, fields, quantum, nuclear
- Chemistry — energetics, equilibria, kinetics, organic, analysis
- Biology — biochemistry, genetics, physiology, ecology, control
- Practical endorsement skills and data-analysis questions
Economics, Business & Computing
- Economics — micro, macro, market failure, policy evaluation
- Business — strategy, finance, operations, case-study technique
- Computer Science — theory, algorithms, programming project
- Essay and evaluation structures that reach the top band
Who this is for
Is A Levels tutoring right for your student?
- Year 12 and 13 students in British-curriculum schools
- Students holding a B who need an A or A* for a firm offer
- Private candidates and re-sit candidates
- Students taking Further Mathematics alongside Mathematics
- Applicants needing specific grades for medicine or engineering
What you get
Outcomes we commit to
- Teaching to your exact specification and option units
- Evaluation written to reach the top band, not just the content band
- Full papers marked to the official scheme
- A grade projection tracked against your university offer
Diagnosis first
A Levels marks slip for a small number of fixable reasons
We find which one it is in the first session, then teach against it. Vague effort does not move a score; a named cause does.
Knowledge is fine, evaluation is thin
At A2 the top band is reached through judgement and justification, not recall. Students who know everything and evaluate nothing sit at a B.
AS gaps carried into A2
A2 assumes AS is secure. Most A2 collapses trace back to an unrepaired AS topic — usually calculus, moles or elasticity.
The last question is always rushed
Running out of time is a pacing problem, not a knowledge problem, and it costs the highest-tariff marks on the paper.
Practical and data questions are neglected
Data-analysis and practical questions are heavily weighted and highly patterned. They reward preparation more reliably than any other question type.
The plan
How the course actually runs
A written plan agreed before the first paid lesson, so you always know what stage the student is in.
Specification Audit
Session 1
- Confirm board, specification and option units
- Diagnostic past paper with question-level analysis
- Separate knowledge gaps from technique gaps
- Agree the target grade and university requirement
Depth
Core teaching
- Full teaching of each unit to A2 depth
- Derivations and proofs the specification requires
- Synoptic links across units made explicit
- Unit tests marked with written feedback
A* Technique
Skill build
- Evaluation and analysis marks — where A* is actually won
- Multi-step problem decomposition under time
- Data and practical-based question method
- Timing rebuilt so the last question is never rushed
Papers
Final phase
- Full past papers to exam timing
- Marked to the official mark scheme by the tutor
- Error log by question type, reviewed weekly
- Grade-boundary tracking to the exam date
How it works
From first message to first lesson
Four steps, no directory to sort through, no commitment before the demo.
Tell us about the student
Curriculum, board, current grade, target grade, and the topics actually causing trouble. Two minutes on WhatsApp is usually enough.
We match the tutor
We hand-pick one specialist for your exact specification. You are not sent a directory to sort through — the match is our job.
Free trial lesson
A real teaching session with the tutor who would teach the course. No payment, no card details, no commitment.
Lessons and weekly reports
The same tutor every week, a written plan, and a progress report to the parent so nobody is guessing whether it is working.
Who teaches it
Faculty for A Levels (AS & A2)
You are matched to one of these specialists — and you keep them.
Every enquiry reaches the academic team first. They read what the student is actually stuck on, identify the exact board and paper, and match a subject specialist who teaches that syllabus week in and week out — not the next tutor on a list. The team sets the study plan, reviews progress reports before they are sent, and steps in to reassign a tutor if the match is not right after the first lesson. They also answer the WhatsApp line during teaching hours.
Questions parents ask
A Levels — frequently asked questions
Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel, AQA and OCR. Specifications differ in option units and paper structure, so we confirm yours before teaching begins.
Usually yes, and it is a different course from a foundation course. At that level the work is precision — eliminating the last careless errors and lifting evaluation into the top band. It typically needs eight to twelve focused weeks.
Yes, alongside Mathematics or on its own, including complex numbers, matrices, differential equations and the applied options.
Yes — our writing service prepares personal statements and UCAS applications, and we can advise on grade requirements for specific courses.
