German Language (A1 – C2) — the short version
German language learning is structured on the Common European Framework of Reference, running A1 and A2 at beginner level, B1 and B2 at independent user level, and C1 and C2 at proficient level. Certification is provided principally by the Goethe-Institut through the Goethe-Zertifikat at each level, by telc, and for university entry in Germany by TestDaF and the DSH examination taken at German universities. Requirements differ sharply by purpose: family reunion visas often ask for A1, vocational routes B1 or B2, and degree study typically C1-level competence evidenced by TestDaF or DSH. Tabish Tutors teaches German one-to-one online across all CEFR levels and prepares candidates for the specific certificate they need.

Diagnosis first
German marks slip for a small number of fixable reasons
We find which one it is in the first session, then teach against it. Vague effort does not move a score; a named cause does.
The wrong certificate is being prepared
A candidate who needs TestDaF for a degree but prepares Goethe B2 has spent months on the wrong exam. Confirming the requirement first is the cheapest step in the whole process.
Cases are memorised as tables
Learners who recite the case table but cannot choose a case while speaking have not learned cases. It has to be built in use.
Speaking is postponed until "ready"
Waiting to feel ready to speak produces learners with good grammar who cannot hold a conversation, and the speaking component is a quarter of every exam.
Academic register never practised
TestDaF and DSH demand formal, structured academic German. Conversational fluency alone does not reach the required level.

Questions parents ask
German — frequently asked questions
It depends on the purpose. Family reunion visas commonly require A1; many work and nursing registration routes require B1 or B2; degree study in Germany usually requires TestDaF or DSH at C1 level. Confirm with the university, embassy or regulator before you start, and we will build the plan around it.
As a rough guide, each level from A1 to B1 takes in the region of 150 to 250 hours of study, with the higher levels taking longer. Progress depends heavily on how much practice happens between lessons, and we will give you an honest timeline after the placement assessment.
Yes — including IGCSE, GCSE, A Level and IB German B, alongside the Goethe and telc certificates.
Yes. A1 assumes no prior knowledge, and we begin with pronunciation and sentence structure from the first lesson.
