I.Com — Intermediate in Commerce — the short version

I.Com (Intermediate in Commerce) is a two-year Pakistani intermediate qualification taken as Part I and Part II. The core subjects are Principles of Accounting, Principles of Commerce, Principles of Economics and Business Mathematics, with Banking, Statistics and Computer Studies appearing depending on the board and part. Accounting dominates the aggregate because it is marked on working, not just the final figure. Tabish Tutors teaches I.Com one-to-one online, working every question on screen so students learn the full double-entry method rather than copying a finished answer.

What we cover

Full I.Com coverage — nothing quietly skipped

We teach to the specification, not to a summary of it. Here is exactly what is on the table.

Principles of Accounting

  • Double entry, journal, ledger and trial balance
  • Cash book, petty cash and bank reconciliation
  • Adjustments, depreciation and provisions
  • Final accounts of sole traders and partnerships
  • Non-trading concerns and single-entry conversion

Principles of Commerce

  • Business, trade and aids to trade
  • Forms of business organisation
  • Insurance, warehousing and transport
  • Marketing, advertising and channels of distribution
  • Business documents and correspondence

Principles of Economics

  • Demand, supply and elasticity
  • Consumer behaviour and utility
  • Production, cost and revenue
  • Market structures and factor pricing
  • National income, money, banking and Pakistan's economy

Business Maths, Banking & Statistics

  • Ratio, proportion, percentage and profit-loss
  • Simple and compound interest, annuities
  • Matrices, sets and linear equations in business context
  • Banking: instruments, functions, State Bank of Pakistan
  • Statistics: data presentation, averages, dispersion, index numbers

Who this is for

Is I.Com tutoring right for your student?

  • Part I students meeting double-entry accounting for the first time
  • Part II students whose trial balance never agrees
  • Students planning ACCA, CA or a BBA who need a strong commerce base
  • Improvement candidates repeating Accounting or Business Maths

What you get

Outcomes we commit to

  • A trial balance the student can make agree, on their own
  • Theory answers structured the way the marking scheme rewards
  • Full final accounts completed inside exam time
  • A commerce base strong enough for B.Com, BBA or ACCA

Diagnosis first

I.Com marks slip for a small number of fixable reasons

We find which one it is in the first session, then teach against it. Vague effort does not move a score; a named cause does.

The answer is right, the working is missing

Accounting marks live in the working. Students who jump to the final figure lose most of the question even when the number is correct.

Adjustments are guessed

Closing stock, outstanding expenses, prepaid items and depreciation are where final accounts break. Treated as a checklist they stop being frightening.

Theory subjects are left until the end

Commerce and Economics are assumed to be easy reading and then answered vaguely. Board answers need defined terms and structure, which takes practice.

Business Maths is avoided

Students who dislike maths skip it and cap their aggregate. It is the most predictable paper on the list once the formula set is drilled.

The plan

How the course actually runs

A written plan agreed before the first paid lesson, so you always know what stage the student is in.

Accounting Base

Part I

  • Double entry taught until it is automatic
  • Full journal → ledger → trial balance cycle
  • Every question worked on screen, step by step
  • Weekly practice sets marked

Theory Writing

Parallel

  • Commerce and Economics answer structures
  • Definitions the board expects, word for word where required
  • Diagrams in Economics drawn and labelled correctly
  • Long-answer planning under time

Final Accounts

Part II

  • Adjustments taught as a checklist, not a memory test
  • Partnership and non-trading accounts
  • Bank reconciliation and error correction
  • Full final-accounts questions to board timing

Board Papers

Final phase

  • Past papers for every subject
  • Mark-scheme based self-checking
  • Speed on the accounting paper
  • Aggregate planning across subjects

Questions parents ask

I.Com — frequently asked questions

Almost always, and usually quickly. It is nearly always one of four causes — a wrong side, a missed adjustment, a transposed figure, or a balance carried down incorrectly. We diagnose which one it is in the first session.

Sessions run bilingually. Concepts are explained in whichever language makes them land, while all written answers, definitions and formats are practised in exam English.

Yes. Students who learn double entry properly at I.Com level find the professional papers far less punishing. We teach the method, not shortcuts that break later.
